Katie has varied interests and skills, giving her a unique approach to life which she is grateful for. Born and raised in Clifton, Texas, a small community with big art influence, she has been impacted by art all her life and naturally felt drawn to creative outlets. Her interests, desire to help people in need and personal experience led her to her first profession in orthotics and prosthetics, where she has had a creative outlet in designing and fabricating braces and prosthetic limbs for people. This profession has also led Katie to an opportunity to do medical mission work where she has had the privilege to serve as a board member and volunteer prosthetist/orthotist with Prosthetic Promises In His Name, a non-profit focused in providing prosthetic services in Zambia, Africa. She took on the Executive Director role for the PPIHN board in 2020 and also continues to serve as a volunteer prosthetist/orthotist and team leader for trips to Zambia.

Though working in the medical profession, Katie maintained a focus in continuing to develop her art through the years. In 2021, she transitioned to a full-time art career and opened Vantage Point Art Gallery in Downtown Gainesville, Texas with a vision to provide local artists like herself a space to display their art, enliven the downtown Gainesville art scene and create a place of community for creatives. She focuses on mural painting, both indoor and outdoor, which is her outlet to work on a large scale. On a small scale, she works mostly in acrylics.

 

She likes to experiment with different ideas and techniques, with varied subjects. Her work is inspired by her life experiences and passions. "My fascination with art is that it is never wrong---it is my expression and how I interpret things---in a world that so often feels black and white, that comforts me."

 

Katie finds a balance in creating artwork and painting murals, operating Vantage Point Art Gallery and serving through Prosthetic Promises in His Name. ​
